Hey
Saturday afternoon, I went to lunch with Ray and Karl. We went to a BBQ joint in Long Island City. We
hadn't hung out all summer, so we had a ton of catching up to do. And we did. We also had a huge
political debate in which we settled absolutely nothing. If I hadn't had to work Saturday night, this would
have turned into one of those 12 hour drinking binges, but thankfully it didn't. Still it was good to see the
boys again. And that BBQ place is excellent, if you can find it, I highly recommend it.
RIP Scott Muni- Don't think its much of a stretch to say that Scottso was the voice of rock and roll in
this town. For over 40 years, he covered it all. From Elvis to the Beatles to the Stones to Led Zeppelin
right up to Pearl Jam, he played all those albums and interviewed all those band members.
I remember when he was at WNEW-FM back in the early 90's, when they began f-ck-ng around with
the format. They had Scottso announce that they were switching away from classic rock and more
towards new wave and modern rock. He would still play his Beatles songs to start off his show, but then
instead of Led Zep or the Who, he'd play Nirvana or Stone Temple Pilots.
He also occasionally guest DJ'd on CBS-FM, where he would play the Supremes and the Monkees,
and he sounded just as comfortable playing in either format.
Of course, NEW insisted on jerking around with its format, and when they went to all talk in 1998,
they unceremoniously dumped him. Q-104 wisely picked him up and he did an hour a day for them.
Since January when he suffered a stroke, his shows were taped or had guest DJ's.
Speaking of guest DJ's, his most famous guest DJ was back in 1975, when he had John Lennon co-
host his afternoon shift on NEW. He had been friends with Lennon since the Beatle days, but their
friendship was solidified that year, when both Scott's wife and Yoko Ono were giving birth at the same
time in the same hospital. Lennon and Scottso kept each other company in the waiting room. That's a
little known fact that Scottso talked about every year around this time in October.
Another piece of NY, gone forever
BASEBALL 2004
I don't understand why Bud Selig thinks that Washington D.C. will be a swell place for baseball when it
already was a miserable failure TWICE! They should have moved the Montreal Expos to either Las
Vegas (Ace's idea) or New Orleans (my idea). They're just doomed to fail again in Washington. They
would have been better off staying put.
The only thing that made 2004 a better season than 2003, is that the Mets took 4 out of 6 from the
Yankees, including a sweep at Shea Stadium. Otherwise, it was another season in which they took the
last 6 weeks off. I really do believe that if they let Omar Minaya do his job, he will get them off the mat.
Now for my playoff predictions
YANKEES over TWINS IN 5
They'll lose to Santana twice, but will dominate the other 3 games
RED SOX over ANGELS in 4
Schilling and Pedro will create an insurmountable lead.
ASTROS over BRAVES in 4
Braves got into playoffs by default, as usual.
DODGERS over CARDS in 5
I needed to pick an upset. The Cards will probably win it all.
RED SOX over YANKEES
The curse will end here because the Sox have the better pitching
DODGERS over ASTROS
Because I can't stand the thought of Clemens pitching in the Series
RED SOX over DODGERS
And then I woke up and the Cardinals were spraying champagne in Yankee Stadium.
Happy birthday Colleen "the Captain" Mathis. (Tuesday)
The Rest of you Have a Great Week
