Electoral College 1960-2012
These are the results of the Presidential Elections since Alaska and Hawaii became states in 1959.
1960
John F. Kennedy (D) 303
Richard M. Nixon (R) 219
Harry F. Byrd (D) 15
One of the closest popular votes in history.
1964
Lyndon B. Johnson (D) 486
Barry M. Goldwater (R) 52
First election that included Washington DC. LBJ won all but 6 states.
1968
Richard M. Nixon (R) 301
Hubert H. Humphrey (D) 191
George C. Wallace (AI) 46
Wallace is last third party candidate to outright win a state. Nixon wins all but 17 states. 12 for Humphery 5 for Wallace
1972
Richard M. Nixon (R) 520
George McGovern (D) 17
Nixon wins 49 states. McGovern takes Massachusetts and Washington DC.
1976
Jimmy Carter (D) 297
Gerald R. Ford (R) 240
Ford won more states, but Carter took all the big ones except for California.
1980
Ronald Reagan (R) 489
Jimmy Carter (D) 49
Reagan wins all but 6 states and DC. My guy John Anderson wins over 500,000 votes. (In my second grade election, the final score was Reagan 17, Carter 15 and Anderson 2. I'm the only one to admit I voted for Anderson and get ridiculed for it. Years later Ace claims he cast the other one. Ray voted for Reagan-but probably will deny it)
1984
Ronald Reagan (R) 525
Walter F. Mondale (D) 13
Reagan wins all but Minnesota (Mondale's home state) and Washington DC.
1988
George Bush (R) 426
Michael S. Dukakis (D) 111
I really didn't want Bush to win this one, but this wasn't even as close as the score would indicate.
1992
William J. Clinton (D) 370
George Bush (R) 168
Ross Perot took 20% of the popular vote, but no electoral votes. Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow.
1996
William J. Clinton (D) 379
Robert Dole (R) 159
Like 1988, this score isn't even close. Clinton was never seriously challenged.
2000
George W. Bush (R) 271
Albert Gore, Jr. (D) 266
Gore wins the popular vote. Many claim he won Florida as well. Election not decided till December 13th.
2004
George W. Bush (R) 286
John F. Kerry (D) 251
I had predicted it would go 281-257 for Kerry. I picked NM, OH, and NV wrong.
2008
Barack H. Obama (D) 365
John S. McCain (R) 173
I had called it for Obama, but much closer than this. Wishful thinking on my part.
2012
Barack H. Obama (D) 332
W. Mitt Romney (R) 206
Obama never really in danger here despite poor economy. Election night one week after Superstorm Sandy.
2016
Donald J. Trump (R) 306
Hillary Clinton (D) 232
Considered one of the biggest upsets in history. Clinton wins popular vote by more than 2 million.

Comments
your call on my 2nd grade vote is correct.
I'm not going to deny it.
Ray
I forgot to add at the time (in second grade), I was overly concerned about how the press would give a pass to a celebrity president and not be as critical of him as they were on Carter.
