ELECTION DAY 2006-Weekly Mail Non-Endorsements
I'm not going to touch the NY State Senator's and Governor's races, because they are both foregone conclusions. Both Senator Clinton and Elliot Spitzer are going to roll, and there's no use aggravating those who think that Hillary is the second coming of Christ. But here are our non-endorsements.
In the Attorney's General Race, Weekly Mail will not be voting for Jeanine Pirro the Westchester County DA. Not that I think that Andrew Cuomo is anything special, and I actually considered voting for Pirro when she was running for Senate. But Pirro has a ton of baggage, mostly courtesy of her husband Al. The papers were filled with various acts of underhandedness from Al Pirro for most of the summer. He couldn't have hurt his wife's chances more if he was Cuomo's campaign manager.
In the race for State Comptroller, Weekly Mail will not be voting for Alan Hevesi. As we stated last week, this man is pompous, arrogant and untrustworthy with state money. You can over look the first two if it weren't for the third. Chris Callaghan looks like a decent man, and though he's never had to oversee a budget the size of NY state's, I'd rather take a chance on him than a crook like Hevesi. That guy needs to get out.
In other out of state races, WM would not vote for Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey in his mudsling shootout against Tom Kean Jr. While Kean lacks experience, Menendez lacks a moral compass. New Jersey is a hotbed of less than honest politicians, and Menendez follows a long line of corruption and deceit. The Toll Booth State deserves much better.
I'm actually going to make an endorsement and say that WM hopes upon hope that Kinky Friedman becomes the next governor of Texas. I'm not even rooting for him for comedic value either, go to YouTube and search for his commercials. After a couple of months of the trash we've had to watch here, its refreshing to see someone who has a sense of humor and some good ideas for his state without dumping on his opponent. This country needs more of that.
